The U.S. Conference of Mayors is pulling out of Providence as the location for its 2027 annual meeting and will hold the gathering in Atlanta instead.
CEO Tom Cochran says the decision comes after the primary election defeat of Mayor Brett Smiley, because the event can be challenging for any new mayor during a transition.
The organization is allowed to reconsider the host city if the mayorship changes in the year before its annual meeting.
The event, scheduled for June 24th through the 27th, was expected to generate around two-million-dollars in economic impact or the city.
