My years of reporting and political commentary have taught me the secret language of the elected. Whenever a politician says there will be a "national search" for a position, the hidden message is almost always the existence of a very "qualified" candidate right under our noses. On Thursday, Worcester Mayor Joseph "Putty" Petty will ask the school committee to approve the preparation of a national search to find a new superintendent of schools in Worcester. Worcester School Superintendent Maureen Binienda's contract is up in June of 2022 and has not expressed any interest in leaving or retiring. This is the second time Worcester's political machine has set its sights on Binienda, but this time they may have a successor waiting in the wings: Worcester City Councilor Sean Rose. The district 1 councilor is close with Mayor Petty (see below) and his wife is related to School Committee Member Molly McCullough. Rose is also politically and personally tight with school committee members Laura Clancy and Tracy Novick. He holds a school superintendent's license, but has no experience as a public school administrator. Click the podcast below for more.
