Emerald Ash Borer In Rhode Island For First Time

(Providence, RI)  --  The Rhode Island Department of Environmental management is advising that a destructive, invasive pest has been found in the state for the first time. It's the Emerald Ash Borer, which the department says was found in South County during a monitoring survey. The bug attacks ash trees and leaves visible tunnels shaped like the letter S. The spread of infested material by humans, including firewood, has accelerated the borer's spread.
