Audit Focuses On Coventry Sewer System

(Coventry, RI)--Rhode Island Auditor General Dennis Hoyle is releasing a report on Coventry's troubled sewer program. The program was suspended after public outcry about the high costs of sewer assessments in newly-sewered areas, the mandatory nature of the assessments, and the fact that millions of dollars in cash advances were authorized from the town's general fund to support operations. The audit recommends, among other things, to explore options to manage and reduce the high cost of the assessments, authorize a sewer use rate study and develop a sewer fund budget.
