(Providence, RI)--The Rhode Island Senate is advancing a bill to ban single-use plastic bags.The chamber's Committee on Environment and Agriculture voted on the legislation introduced by Senate President Dominick Ruggerio yesterday.Environmentalists expressed concern about a loophole in the original version of the bill which they said had been addressed by municipalities that have passed bans.The amended version requires re-usable shopping bags to have stitched handles.
