“The View” Bashes “Straight Pride Parade”

The ladies of “The View” finally found something they all agree on – that the “Straight Pride Parade” planned for next month in Boston is ridiculous. During yesterday’s episode of the ABC talk show, the panel bashed the event, calling it “demeaning and dismissive” of the oppressed LGBTQ community. Here’s what they had to say:

  • Sunny Hostin summed it up in one sentence: “There’s a parade every day of straight, white men.” To which Ana Navarro quipped, “Yeah, it’s called the Republicans in the Senate.”

  • Whoopi Goldberg called the event “ridiculous,” pointing out that unlike straight, white men, members of the LGBTQ community are “demonized” and “discriminated against.” “You feel like people will discriminate against you for jobs if you’re a white guy?” she mused.

  • Joy Behar agrees with actorChris Evans’take that there’s an underlying reason the organizers are so homophobic. “I always feel like when someone’s proclaiming, ‘I’m straight! I’m straight!,’ they’re usually in the closet,” she said.

  • Meghan McCain called the event “tone-deaf,” especially given that this year’s Pride Month falls on the 50th anniversary of Stonewall.

“The idea that you compare yourself to an oppressed class and your experience in our society of an oppressed class is ridiculous,” McCain added. “There’s always going to be ridiculous people in the world. And I think it’s that simple.”
