No Slowing Down On COVID Testing; Tests Will Be Less Painful

(Providence, RI)--Governor Gina Raimondo said on Monday that Rhode Island reached a coronavirus-testing milestone this past weekend. She says the state went over two-hundred-thousand tests, representing more than twenty percent of the state's population, the number one state for testing in the U.S.Raimondo made an indirect reference to President Trump's comments about testing at a rally in Oklahoma over the weekend -- she said, quote, "I know there's some national discussion around reducing testing" -- but she said Rhode Island is not going to do that. The state is authorizing a switch in testing aimed at making it less painful and in hopes that more asymptomatic people will get tested as a result: instead of a swab that goes inside someone's nose, now the COVID test will involve a swab that just makes contact with the front of it.
