COVID-19 UPDATE: RI Testing Rate Still High. Positive Test Rate =1.5%.

Here is a summary of the headlines from Governor Gin Raimondo's COVID-19 press briefing on Wednesday 10/07:

  • Testing
  • Over 9,500 tests conducted on Tuesday 10/6. State is among national leaders in tests per population.
  • Rhode Island's percent-positive rate is at 1.5% (145 cases/ 9,524 tests).
  • Governor Raimondo expects the number of daily tests to exceed 10,00/day in coming weeks.
  • K-12 testing system
  • Over 6,000 tests performed to date, with 109 positive tests among students.
  • 260 total positive tests altogether, including staff, teachers and those who have not entered a school building.
  • In-school cases have occurred among 95 schools, with 69 of those schools having just 1 case.
  • Vaccines
  • Governor calls on state's Vaccine Advisory Sub-Committee to convene and will be responsible for developing RI-Specific process fro evaluating safety and effectiveness of each COVID-19 vaccine introduced.
  • Sub-committee will also help prioritize vaccine distribution plan.
