Just In Case- Some Students Get Laptops As Backup

Nothing has been cast in stone yet but the Rhode Island Department of Education are suggesting that local school districts send kids home for the holidays with a laptop computer. The idea is to be prepared just in case we see a dramatic spike in the number of cases of the coronavirus and virtual learning needs to be implemented again.

Pawtucket and Barrington among the communities looking ahead by sending kids home with computers. But that distance learning would only kick in if the entire state were to be converted to virtual learning.

Officials want students who are eligible for the coronavirus vaccine to be vaccinated. But they say that if the numbers spike- that they have to be ready to go to a virtual format.

There has been no indication as to when the decision will be made as to a potential return.

Officials say the numbers are being reviewed frequently.

Students are set to return to class on January 3rd.
