Presidential spokesman Sean Spicer says some professional protesters are infiltrating town hall meetings – something President Trump tweeted about Tuesday. Mr. Trump said the "so-called angry crowds in home districts of some Republicans are actually, in numerous cases, planned out by liberal activists." He called it “sad.”
At his daily briefing, Spicer told reporters that there is a certain "manufactured" element in the meetings with Republican lawmakers, which he said is aimed at getting media attention. “I think some people are clearly upset. But there is a bit of ‘professional protestor,’ ‘manufactured base’ in there,” Spicer explained. “But I also think that when you look at some of these districts and some of these things, that it is not a representation of a member’s district or – it’s a loud group, small group of people disrupting something.”
It’s not difficult to see his point, as organizations have gone public with “opportunities” to protest. Among them, “Resistance Calendar” and the “Town Hall Project” – both of which lay out political events and encourage people to attend and offer protest. Some of this anger might be manufactured but much of it is legit in this divided nation of ours.
