(Smithfield, RI) -- Residents of Smithfield are trying to come up with a plan to reopen the East Smithfield Community Center which was shut down due to code violations. The center has hosted events for more than a century, but abruptly closed February 24th. Any funds generated from the center are shared with the town, but it's been tough to get any funds from the town. The historic preservation commission is assisting with resolving the closure.
