PONY UP TO THE STATE HOUSE BAR!

Freshman state rep Moira Walsh (D-Providence) is suggesting our politicians are legislating while intoxicated. During a radio interview, Walsh was asked what appalled her the most since joining the general Assembly in January, the rep responded "the insane amount of drinking" that takes place at the State House." She also referred to "file cabinets full of booze" under the Smith Hill dome. Walsh said 'you can't operate a motor vehicle when you've had two beers, but you can make laws that affect people's lives forever when you're half in the bag." When asked about her statements later that day following a House session, Walsh backed off the suggestion that House members are drinking during hearings or before votes and said she was referring to the frequent fundraiser cocktail parties held during the year. Let me point outto rep Walsh that she's talking about apples and oranges, and I don't mean types of martinis. A coctail party fundraiser is a SOCIAL event. Who cares how much state lawmakers consume when they're trying to fill their campaign coffers not make decisions that affect our lives. Look, I didn't just fall off the turnip truck and I'm sure there's an adult beverage or two consumed from time to time on Smith Street, but to suggest our state lawmakers are plastered while grinding sausage its a bit absurd.
