(Providence, RI) -- A proposed bill in the State House would allow illegal immigrants to get driver's licenses. Supporters of the measure say it will increase safety because it ensures that all drivers are trained, tested and insured. Immigrants could use a foreign birth certificate or another legal document to obtain a license since they wouldn't have the required social security proof as now required by law. In the past House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello has not been supportive of the measure.
