For years we've been talking about the demise of brick and mortar stores with the advent of online shopping but for SEARS, all the talk is about to become a cold, harsh reality. SEARS, which began as mail order catalog in the 1880's and grew to become a retail giant says it has substantial doubt it can remain in business after losing $ 2 billion dollars last year. SEARS has already started selling off its brands such as CRAFTSMAN tools and KENMORE appliances and has lost more than $10.4 billion since 2011. SEARS just never seemed to be able to morph into a hipper place to shop despite stiull being the world's number one retailer as recently as 1989. The once incredibly active SEARS on Main Street near the Pawtucket-Providence line where I bought a Ted Williams baseball glove and a one size fits all BEATLES wig upon the British Invasion, sat boarded up and dormant for the better part of two decades before being razed to build a GOLDS GYM....it represented both a ghost of the past and the ghost of future yet to come. SEARS one time slogan was 'WHERE ELSE BUT SEARS"...Apparently, its soon to be "ANYWHERE ELSE."
