(Providence, RI) -- The state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union says the threat by the Trump administration to cut federal funding to so-called sanctuary cities is a scare tactic. Spokesman Steve Brown says a federal law cited by U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions doesn't actually require a state or municipality to collect information about or voluntarily report on an individual's immigration status. Brown says the ACLU is urging the state and municipalities to stand strong against the attorney general's threats.
