A photo of a Confederate flag hanging inside a garage owned by the state D-O-T went viral after a reporter covering a news conference about work zone safety snapped it on his smartphone. By the time that news conference had ended, the flag had been taken down but not before the damage was done on social media. The photo showed the flag hanging against a wall behind two trucks. D-O-T Director Peter Alviti says hanging the flag was stupid and inappropriate. The 2015 massacre of nine black worshipers by a white man at a South Carolina church sparked discussions around the country about whether it was appropriate to display the Confederate flag. The killer, Dylan Roof, had a Confederate flag on his license plate and posted picture of himself with the flag in his online manifesto. A D-O-T spokesperson says they have no idea who placed the flag or how long it had been there. If it WAS there for any length of time it creates a much greater issue to me regarding the judgement within that garage. Look, I'm not suggestion hoods and sheets are also stocked at the garage...but this isn't the place the Dukes of Hazard housed the General Lee.
