The U-S military strike against Syria will likely shape next week's meeting between Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the first face to face encounter between the Russian leader and a member of the Trump administration. The action in Syria allows the Trump administration to demand the Russian President remove Syria's leader , Bashar al Assad, or else Trump could demand Putin either reign in or remove Syria's leader. If Putin balks, however, would Trump expand the limited military action? Back in 2013 many of President Obama's senior aides argued for similar action when the former president stepped up that so called "red line" he created regarding Assad's use of chemical weapons. Rather than taking the threatened actions, Obama worked with Russia forcing Assad to agree to ship Syria's chemical stockpiles out of the country. I guess they missed a pile. At the time, Obama said he was very proud of the moment because he had stepped back from the Washington establishment's warnings. Not many of his top foreign policy advisers felt the same.
