Facebook’s Handling Of Video Content Is Under The Microscope-With the manhunt on for a man who allegedly killed someone and broadcast it with Facebook Live, a gaping hole in the social media giant’s protocol is now obvious.
How did the video of Robert Godwin, Sr. being slain stay on the site for three hours or more before being pulled? It’s simple, the platform relies on its users to report offenses first, then it goes in and looks around.
Experts think Facebook Live is getting too big for that structure and as the company’s developer’s conference kicks off this week, it is expected CEO Mark Zuckerberg will address the serious flaw in policing the site.
Facebook did release a statement acknowledging the need to rethink the video vetting process. “As a result of this terrible series of events, we are reviewing our reporting flows to be sure people can report videos and other material that violates our standards as easily and quickly as possible."
Meanwhile, be vigilant users and when you “see something, say something,”
So something as powerful as FACEBOOK relies on its users...like the nut who streamed this slaying LIVE...to police things? That's about as irresponsible as it gets.
