HOW DO YOU OVERSEE WHAT YOU DON'T SEE?

That's what I asked House Oversight Chair Representative Pat Serpa regarding a fed fine levied on the state for making changes in the Deloitte computer project at the center of the United Health Infrastructure Project. Just hours before the Committee was scheduled to meet for an update on the troubled system, the Governor's office announced a $27 million dollar credit from Deloitte as compensation for some of its unanticipated costs. Unfortunately, the meeting was filled with questions about a previously undisclosed $805 thousand dollar the feds handed down. Seems NOBODY at the Department of Human Services ever told the committee about the dispute or fine in FIVE prior hearings on UHIP since last October. DHS Director Eric Beane appeared before the committee in February and didn't bring it up. To say Serpa was a little frustrated is an understatement. She says it's like playing a shell game. Rep Mike Chippendale went so far as to call it a "cover up." Serpa told me she may have to go as far as to subpoena people she needs answers from. The Pro-Jo reports Raimondo's office referred all questions on UHIP to the Department of Huma Services. Sounds as though Mr. Beane's about to get a close up view of a RIPTA undercarriage.
