NEW PAWSOX STADIUM PLAN ON HOLD

The revised Pawsox stadium proposal quickly became a hot potato...well, now that potato has a chance to cool off. Senate President Dominic Ruggerio says the chamber won't take up the proposal before the end of this session which has just weeks to go. Ruggerio says the Senate hasn't even received legislation to act on so there's no time for a proper vetting process. Governor Raimondo says she agrees with Ruggerio. To review the Pawsox ownership's latest pitch, their asking the state to pony up $23 million and the city of Pawtucket $15 million with ownership taking up the rest including over runs. The estimated total cost is $83 million. Raimondo initially praised the deal but refused to formally endorse the plan. Her office says it's not a top priority for her. House Speaker Nicolas Mattiello said he wouldn't even look at legislation without Raimondo's stamp of approval. Remember, Mattiello was burned for his passionate support of a Providence Stadium along 195 land that would have put taxpayers on the hook for ALOT more dough. How this will be received by Pawsox ownership remains unknown. The team has a contract to play at McCoy Stadium through 2020. Taking time to digest all this is a smart move. Some are leery of giving millionaires any tax dollars at all. One thing I'd suggest is to adjust the total number of taxpayer dollars either up a million or down a million....NO Rhode Islander's comfortable with the number 38.
