DEFENDING THE INDEFENSIBLE

Jim Carrey Defends Kathy Griffin Over Donald Trump Photo

Jim Carrey has stepped up to defend Kathy Griffin after backlash stemming from her photo shoot with President Donald Trump’s decapitated head.

"I think it is the job of a comedian to cross the line at all times — because that line is not real," Carrey says. "If you step out into that spotlight and you're doing the crazy things that [Trump is] doing, we're the last line of defense. And really, the comedians are the last voice of truth in this whole thing." Is Carrey jumping aboard the SS CAREER SUICIDE along with Griffin?

As we reported, the Trump photo fallout has continued for Griffin via lost gigs and sponsors, though she apologized for the photos hours after they were released. "I'm a comic. I crossed the line. I moved the line, then I crossed it. I went way too far," she said.

Meanwhile, Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) said in a statement that Griffin will now not participate in a July event in Minnesota with him. Earlier in the week, Franken had said he was standing by the comedian. But he changed his tune, saying yesterday, “I believe what Kathy Griffin did was inappropriate and not something that should be anywhere in our national discourse. I consider her a friend and I’m glad she realized she crossed the line and apologized. After hearing from many Minnesotans who were rightfully offended, I’ve come to the conclusion that it would be best for her not to participate in the event we had previously scheduled. I understand why Minnesotans were upset by this, and I take that very seriously.” Smart move, Al.
