(Providence, RI) -- An ordinance to curb racial profiling by Providence police is awaiting the mayor's signature. City Council approved the Providence Community-Police Relations Act last night on a 13 to one vote. The measure prevents officers from relying on race, ethnicity or language to housing status or political affiliation to suspect someone has committed or is about to commit a crime. The Fraternal Order of Police says the measure has unresolved issues and members could not get behind it.
