HOW MANY HATS IN THE RING?

Is the 2018 race for RI governor starting to take form? Last week Cranston Mayor alan fung had a fundraiser but remained coy about taking another shot for the office. Former state rep Joe Trillo's holding what he's calling a "private event" at Warwick's Cowne Plaza. He describes it as "Exploring Rhode Island's Future" and admitted to the Pro-Jo he's giving serious consideration to running. Trillo headed Donald Trump's Rhode island campaign. House Minority Leader Patricia Morgan is also rumored to be considering a run. Also coming out of the weeds is former Governor Linc Chafee who told public radio he may scratch the itch but is unsure if he'll remain a democrat. If you're keeping score, Chafee was a republican U-S Senator, was elected governor in 2010 as an independent but became a democrat through his single four year term. Chafee says he'll decide if he's running and his party affiliation sometime in the next year. One thing us IS certain about, however, is he's ruled out being a republican. Would he enter a primary as a democrat against the incumbent Raimondo. Would a crowded republican primary field drain those candidates of their campaign coffers before the victor would face Raimondo's already massive campaign war chest? The chess game has only just begun.
