(Providence, RI) -- Rhode Island's proposed 9.2 billion dollar budget is moving forward after it was approved by the House Finance Committee around 1 a.m. this morning. The spending plan fully funds the first year of House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello's plan to eliminate the car tax. The proposed budget also contains a scaled back version of Governor Raimondo's plan to provide two years of free college tuition to state residents. If both the House and Senate pass the spending plan, it will go to the governor for her signature.
