A new survey found that Americans believe incivility in our society is at "crisis" levels, but see their workplace as a refuge from it. An annual poll on civility in America found that a record high 75 percent of Americans say incivility in the country has risen to crisis levels, and 56 percent expect it to get worse over the next few years. However, 86 percent said their workplace is civil, and 63 percent said people are more civil at work than outside of it. Leslie Gaines-Ross of Weber Shandwick, which conducted the survey, told Elite Daily that greater diversity in the workplace for many people than there is in their outside life may contribute to more civility at work. There are also consequences at work for uncivil behavior. Those surveyed put the blame for the incivility in society mainly on politicians, named by 75 percent, the internet and social media, cited by 69 percent, and the news media, named by 59 percent. Gaines-Ross said that nearly 50 percent of those surveyed recommended that there be civility training in schools and colleges, which teaches about how to respectfully disagree and debate, and to accept that it's okay that not everyone has the same opinions
