(Cranston, RI) -- Graduates of Cranston High School East going to college are the beneficiaries of a $239,000 gift. Alice H. Allen graduated in 1935, but never went to college, but when she died last year she left the money to provide financial aid for those who do. Cranston school officials are stunned by the gift, which will be invested so the money will live on forever. Only the interest income will be used for scholarships.
