THOUGHTS FROM THE GOVERNORS' SUMMIT

Rhode Island was in the spotlight as we hosted the Summer Summit of the National Governors Association. I had the chance to spend a bunch of time at the Convention Center and came away with a cornucopia of impressions...among them, the atmosphere was friendly overall. Sure, the Governor's have their differences on issues, but the bottom line is they have to get it done, unlike Congress where the can just gets kicked down the road. Many of those who attended from WAY out of town raved about the state's restaurants and beauty. One DC reporter talked to me about how friendly he thought everyone was going so far as saying "even your panhandlers are nice." And then there are the straphangers, you know the paid entourages that swirl around the office holders like bees around a hive. Man, there are alot of those people pulling down checks. Del's frozen lemonade was a big hit...but few, if any of the Governor's had a clue as to what a Quahog is.
