(Providence, RI) -- A Providence police officer is recovering from carbon monoxide poisoning in his cruiser. The officer went to a nearby fire station Saturday after an alarm in the vehicle sounded and he was taken to the hospital where low levels of carbon monoxide were found in his bloodstream. Carbon monoxide detectors were installed in 43 police SUVs in June and this is the first time one had alerted an officer. The detectors were installed after complaints of carbon monoxide leaking into the cabins of Ford Explorer interceptors.
