(Providence, RI) -- Senator Jack Reed and Senator John McCain are crafting a bill that would begin a new round of Base Realignment and Closure. The process that the military closes facilities and relocates units to other bases was last undertaken in 2005. Reed says if approved the next round would not go into effect before 2022 and "It would be based on analysis by the Department of Defense with congressional participation." Experts don't believe Naval Station Newport will be on the chopping block if the bill is passed.
