(Newport, RI) -- One official says it's not ability but apathy that's causing low PARCC scores in Newport. That's what Superintendent Colleen Jermain says about the district's recent scores. Fewer than a third of students met or exceeded expectations in English Learning Arts, and fewer than a quarter scored that well on math. Jermain told Newport Now last week that many high school students don't take the test seriously because it has no impact on their grades or college admissions.
