(Washington, DC) -- Senator Jack Reed is part of a bipartisan and controversial effort. Reed and Republican Senator John McCain yesterday filed an amendment to a defense bill that would establish a committee to study closing military bases. The bill calls for some bases to start closing by 2021. The Pentagon has requested another round of base closings to eliminate what it says is 20% extra capacity.
