(East Providence, RI) -- A local retail legend is slowly coming to an end as Benny's closed the first of its 31 stores. The East Providence location closed at 5:30 last evening after shoppers took advantage of a 40% sale. The Bromberg family has owned the chain of stores since the first one opened in 1924, but they say the current model doesn't fit in today's retail climate of online shopping. The Cranston and Middleboro, Massachusetts, stores are the next to close on Saturday. All of the stores are to be closed by year's end.
