A federal judge is not going to force the Trump administration to continue making Obamacare payments to insurance companies. A district court judge in California denied a motion for an emergency ruling against President Trump's recent decision to stop paying the Obamacare subsidies.
“If the payments were restored,” Judge Vince Chhabria noted. “Such a remedy would likely cause millions of lower-income people across the country who purchase insurance on the exchanges to be worse off than if today’s status quo is preserved.”
The case had been brought by a coalition of 19 Democratic Attorneys General, with California’s Xavier Becerra and New York’s Eric Schneiderman in the driver’s seat. The payments were helping insurers offset the cost of discounted insurance plans for lower income customers.
