(Providence, RI) -- The Providence City Council is giving preliminary approval to the mayor's plan to seize more than 100 abandoned properties. The proposal would allow the city's redevelopment agency to use eminent domain, purchase or tax sale to acquire the properties. Once the city owns the sites, they will be resold to developers. The council's second vote on the proposal will be November 2nd.
