Rhode Island Native Killed In Plane Crash

(Whiteville, NC)  --  A Rhode Island native is dead and a resident is injured after a plane crash.  The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday as the single-engine Cessna made an approach at the Columbus County Municipal Airport near Whiteville, North Carolina.  The pilot, 62-year-old Howard Chartress the Third, was killed, while the passenger, 28-year-old Richard Shawn of Hopkinton, suffered minor injuries.  The plane was flying from Lake City, Florida, to Rhode Island and was landing to refuel.
