2017 RI STORY OF THE YEAR....REALLY?

Tis the season for lists. The end of each year screams for anything news worthy so we make lists...all kinds of lists. The Pell Center voted the UHIP fiasco as the Rhode Island Story of the Year. That should be an indication as to how boring a year 2017 was when it comes to local news. Who votes on this? A panel of 18 judges from local media and academia. I have never been asked to participate. I'm more than OK with that...it's one less meeting I have to go to. The computer fiasco, which has a price tag of $400 million and counting, led to the resignation of three state officials plus a lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union of RI and the appointment of a special master was voted numero uno. In second place was the deadly  police chase and shooting on route 95 and third place went to the ongoing Pawsox stadium saga. Those were the big three? Man, I'm doubly glad I wasn't invited to that dance. As for UHIP, expect that mess to be the top fodder in the Governor's race. It doesn't matter Governor Raimondo inherited the contract...what will matter to the candidates is the fact the situation hasn't been resolved during her watch. Don't let the facts get in the way of a juicy issue.
