Snow Coming Sunday
(Providence, RI) -- Snow is expected to move across most of the Ocean State late tomorrow night into Sunday. The start of snowfall will be around 10 p.m. and end around 6 a.m. Sunday, when roads are expected to be slick. Accumulation will range from three to six inches. Skies will clear up by Sunday afternoon as temperatures get into the 40s.
Gun Bills to Be Introduced in RI General Assembly
(Providence, RI) -- Rhode Island lawmakers will again try to introduce bills to ban assault rifles like the one used in Florida's school shooting. Bills to do that have failed since the federal ban expired 14 years ago. Another bill reintroduced yesterday would ban high-capacity magazines that have more than ten rounds of ammunition.
Schools Reviewing Safety Procedures
(Providence, RI) -- Some Rhode Island school districts are reviewing their safety procedures after the deadly school shooting in Florida on Wednesday. School systems in the state are required by law to annually update their safety plans and submit them to the Department of Education. The state law was updated after the Columbine High School shooting in Colorado in 1999 and again after the Sandy Hook shooting in Connecticut in 2012. North Providence schools have a system that detects gunshots and immediately calls 911.
Man Sentenced For Impersonating Officer During Home Invasion
(Providence, RI) -- A Pawtucket man will spend the next 14 years behind bars for impersonating a police officer while breaking into a Providence home. Jeffry Rosario was sentenced yesterday for the August 2016 robbery. Court documents show Rosario, wearing a badge and bulletproof vest, knocked on the door of an Alverson Avenue home and told the residents he was an officer conducting a welfare check. A man and a woman were tied up, but the woman escaped as Rosario and three other men robbed the home.
Police Look For Man Who Abandoned Turtle In Frozen Tank
(Coventry, RI) -- Coventry Police are looking for the owner of a turtle on animal cruelty charges. Authorities say 24-year- old Luis Rosa abandoned a turtle and allowed its tank to freeze. Animal control officers found the turtle on February 7th and were able to thaw the tank and safely remove the turtle, which was still alive.
