There’s something to be said for showing up when you know you’re going to take heat. That’s what Republican Senator Marco Rubio did – and what he got – at a contentious town hall meeting dealing with the school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
At the event televised by CNN, the crowd erupted into cheers when the father of a murdered student told Rubio that his comments reacting to the shooting have been "pathetically weak." Attendees booed when Rubio criticized the assault weapons ban.
Rubio was jeered as he hemmed and hawed when he was asked if he could refuse any money from the NRA. “The positions I hold on these issues of the Second Amendment, I've held since the day I entered office in the city of West Miami as an elected official," Rubio offered. "People buy into my agenda, and I do support the Second Amendment." I give Rubio credit for showing up because he had to know he was walking into the lions' den, but I take those points back for not being prepared for a question he HAD TO KNOW would be asked of him. If the answer is YES, just say so and be judged after that. At least its an open and honest answer...not some round about political speak.
