(Charlestown, RI) -- Piping Plovers are back in Rhode Island. The birds will be nesting on state beaches over the next few weeks. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will rope off specific areas to protect the small, rare migratory birds from people, pets and vehicles. Volunteers are needed to help protect the nests and newborn chicks.
