(Newport, RI) -- National Grid has restored electricity in Newport. About three-thousand customers lost electricity Sunday night, but the utility's online outage map indicated overnight that service had been restored. The "Newport Daily News" reports the outage also caused malfunctioning traffic lights and forced firefighters to rescue people stuck in an elevator at Gurney's Newport Resort and Marina on Goat Island. A National Grid spokesperson told the newspaper the outage was caused by a fault in a feeder line.
