(Narragansett, RI) -- The University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Oceanography is implementing a new sustainable fisheries grant project in the Philippines. The school's Coastal Resources Center is partnering with the U.S. Embassy and local universities and non-governmental organizations to carry out the 25-million-dollar, five-year project, which URI says is the largest grant in its history. The school notes that the Philippines is one of the largest fish-producing nations in the world, but is endangered due to destructive fishing practices, typhoons and coastal degradation.
