(Providence, RI) -- Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin is seeking a ruling from the Rhode Island Supreme Court regarding the length of terms for current members serving on the city council and school committee of East Providence. East Providence voters passed a charter change in 2012 to amend two-year terms to four-year terms for board members, but candidates have continued to be elected to two-year terms since then. A "Providence Journal" story over the weekend indicated several council members want to extend their terms based on the referendum. Kilmartin said on Tuesday that he received a citizen complaint about the issue earlier this month.
