Museum Gets Providence Native's Journal

(Philadelphia, PA)  --  The Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia is adding to its public display the original journal of a Rhode Island man who was captured by the British during the war. The journal of Providence native Christopher Hawkins was discovered about two decades ago in the closet of a direct ancestor and was recently donated by her son, according to a press release from the museum. Hawkins tells the story of joining a privateer ship at the age of 13 to fight the British, how he was captured and eventually escaped from the infamous "Jersey" prison ship.
