(Providence, RI) -- The Rhode Island Senate is passing several bills focusing on schoolchildren. One bill, sponsored by Senator Adam Satchell, would require the Department of Education to collect information on the number of social workers in Rhode Island schools and the services they are providing, and report that information to the General Assembly. Another Satchell bill passed by the Senate creates a permanent joint commission on out-of-school-time learning. The Senate also passed a bill sponsored by Senator V. Susan Sosnowski that would forbid the advertising of unhealthy foods to children in schools. All of those pieces of legislation move on to the House.
