Board Of Elections Affirms Decision On Elections

(East Providence, RI)  --  There's an update to the situation in East Providence where City Council members wanted to cancel this year's election and double the length of their terms. Several councilors recently pointed to a 2012 referendum that hasn't been enforced, which extended the terms from two years to four, and said they wanted to enforce it. But "The Providence Journal" reports the Rhode Island Board of Elections affirmed a decision on Monday by the city's board of canvassers that says City Council elections should be held this fall, and that the terms should be for four years going forward.
