(Providence, RI) -- The executive minister of the Rhode Island State Council of Churches is taking a sabbatical to transition from a man to a woman. Council president Chontell Washington made that announcement last week regarding Donald Anderson, who will change her name to Donnie. Washington said in a statement that Anderson shared with the council's governing board last fall that she is transgender, and added that the council is appreciative of Anderson's ministry and totally supportive of the transition.
