(Providence, RI) -- The Rhode Island Senate will consider a bill that would allow terminally ill patients to obtain experimental drugs that have not yet gotten federal approval. The Neil Fachon [[ FASH-un ]] Rhode Island Terminally Ill Patients Right to Try Act of 2018, sponsored by Representative Joseph McNamara, passed the state House last week. The bill is named for a 19-year-old East Greenwich resident who was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor and who was denied a new treatment because of governmental red tape.
