(Providence, RI) -- A missed deadline for filing an appeal could result in the state of Rhode Island losing millions of dollars. Recent court documents indicate an attorney for the Rhode Island Executive Office of Health and Human Services ignored the deadline for the appeal in a case involving Medicaid reimbursement rates for nursing homes. The ruling made the state liable for about eight-million dollars annually since Fiscal Year 2017, according to a request for an extension on filing an appeal by the state to the Rhode Island Superior Court. State officials say the attorney, Gregory Hazian, is one of two who have been placed on administrative leave in connection to the situation.
