(Providence, RI) -- A new law allowing anyone with current or past status in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program to get a driver's license in Rhode Island is now law. Governor Gina Raimondo signed the legislation, sponsored by state Senator Michael McCaffrey and Representative Shelby Maldonado, on Monday. Raimondo said it was one thing that could be done at the state level, while calling on the federal government and Congress to provide a pathway to citizenship for children who were brought into the country illegally. President Trump has cancelled DACA, which was an Obama-era policy, but it has been kept alive through court decisions.
