New Rules Announced For Opioid Prescriptions

(Providence, RI)  --  Rhode Island is updating regulations on opioid prescriptions.  The state said on Monday that the rules now require healthcare providers to have a conversation with their patients on the risks of taking such a prescription, to indicate the diagnosis code or codes on the prescription, and to co-prescribe naloxone to patients who are at a higher risk for overdose.  Department of Health officials say the updates will help Rhode Island move forward after previously making significant strides in reducing the number of opioids that are prescribed.
